Exposure to Uncertainty: Clinical Applications for Anxiety and Worry

Presented by Allison Metts, PhD

Overview: Uncertainty scripts are an exposure-based intervention designed to help clients build tolerance for uncertainty by repeatedly confronting feared outcomes without attempting to resolve them. This training equips clinicians to:

  • Conceptualize the role of intolerance of uncertainty maintaining anxiety and worry

  • Practice assessing when uncertainty scripts are clinically indicated across clinical presentations

  • Create one practice script that promotes emotional engagement and inhibitory learning

  • Role play implementing uncertainty scripts while reducing other forms of avoidance
